With National Cream Tea Day on June 27th, there’s no better excuse to bake something a little special. These Earl Grey Scones are infused with the fragrant notes of our signature Earl Grey - a unique blend of black tea and rose petals - for a soft, floral twist on a cream tea classic.
What Makes This Earl Grey Special?
Unlike standard Earl Grey blends, ours combines bold black tea with delicate rose for a naturally aromatic cup. When folded into scone dough, it adds subtle floral depth and a hint of elegance - perfect for pairing with jam and clotted cream. Just like all our teas, our Earl Grey is blended and produced right here in Cornwall, bringing proper Cornish character to every sip!

-
Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, salt, and the contents of your Earl Grey teabag.
-
Rub in the butter using fingertips until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
-
Pour in the milk, mixing gently until a soft dough forms – don’t overwork it.
-
Knead lightly on a floured surface, just enough to bring it together.
-
Roll to 2–3cm thick and cut into rounds with a scone cutter.
-
Place on tray, brush tops with beaten egg.
-
Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden and risen.
Serve warm with jam and clotted cream. For the full cream tea experience, pair your scones with a pot of our Earl Grey or savour the rich, comforting flavour of our classic Smugglers Brew - whichever you prefer!
