If you’ve been curious about matcha but worried about needing fancy tools or complicated rituals, breathe easy. You don’t need a sieve or a bamboo whisk to enjoy this green goodness.
What Is Matcha?
Matcha is a finely ground powdered green tea from Japan, made by carefully growing and shading the tea leaves before harvesting. This process gives it its vibrant green colour and rich, smooth flavour.
There are different grades of matcha:
-
Ceremonial grade - the highest quality, traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies. It’s prized for its delicate taste and vivid colour.
-
Everyday or culinary grade - perfect for lattes, smoothies, and baking, with a slightly stronger, more robust flavour.
Unlike regular tea, where you steep the leaves and discard them, with matcha you’re drinking the whole leaf in powdered form - meaning you get all the antioxidants, vitamins, and a gentle caffeine lift in every sip.
Whether you’re new to matcha or a seasoned fan, our matcha powder delivers that fresh, earthy flavour with a creamy finish that’s easy to love.
How to Enjoy Matcha
Traditionally, matcha is whisked with just hot water - no milk - in a special bowl using a bamboo whisk to create a smooth, frothy drink. This ceremonial method honours centuries of Japanese tea culture and highlights the pure, clean taste of matcha.
When enjoying matcha outside of a formal tea ceremony, the key is to be mindful of its origins and appreciate its unique qualities. Taking a moment to savour the flavour and honour the tradition behind this special tea makes every cup feel a little more meaningful.
That said, we love matcha any way you enjoy it. You don’t need fancy tools or strict rituals to get a delicious drink. Just pop a teaspoon of matcha into your favourite mug, add a splash of hot (not boiling) water, and blitz it with a small handheld electric whisk until all the little bits disappear. Easy, quick, and tasty.
If you’re a milk fan, steamed milk adds that velvety smooth texture that turns your matcha into a creamy comfort drink. Prefer it cold? Try it iced! Simply fill a glass with ice and your chosen milk, then pour the matcha mix (water plus powder) over the top for a beautiful layered effect.
Our current obsession? Coconut and vanilla matcha - using our Monin syrups for that extra-indulgent twist. However you make it, matcha is a little moment of calm and energy all in one.
